COMMUNITY:

White Rock is a sought after seaside community that attracts locals and tourists with its unique natural setting, sense of community and amenities.

The White Rock community borders Semiahmoo Bay for 2.5 km and is surrounded on the three inland sides by South Surrey. White Rock was named after a distinctive large white boulder on its beach near the promenade, which landed there during the last ice age glaciation. The white rock, one of the area’s famous landmarks is located within steps of the 1500 foot long pier that was originally built in 1914 to port coastal ships.

White Rock has a distinct landscape located on a gradual sloping hill, which provides panoramic views to residents on the hillside of the Pacific Ocean, San Juan Islands, the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island. This has always reflected in the constant attraction to property in the White Rock area. There is a mixture of housing options in White Rock, with many old and new low rise condominium buildings on the mid to Northern side of the city, located within steps to convenience shopping such as grocery stores, restaurants and within close proximity to the Peace Arch Hospital. The hillside with optimal views consists mainly of smaller single family lots with a variety of older and newer custom built homes that maximize the panoramic ocean views. Lower level White Rock has a mixture of strata and commercial buildings and cute homes that border Marine Dr on “the strip”. Recent changes to the community plan have made room for the redevelopment of land in some areas, providing luxury high rise and low rise real estate options for residents who are looking for optimal views with a sense of city living in a small community.

White Rock still maintains the vibe of a small community with a strong sense of culture. With an abundance of amenities, White Rock is a summertime destination for locals of the lower mainland who are looking for a day at the beach, casual shopping at the local shops and a variety of delicious sea side restaurants. It is also on the average tourists list of places to visit while visiting Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

During the spring and summer months, the average day-tripper can enjoy the beaches, tidal pools, kayaking, canoeing, skim boarding, sailing and many other fun activities around “the strip” and beach. The White Rock Sea Festival takes place on the August Long Weekend with live entertainment, kids activities, a parade, fireworks and many pop up vendors. Local artists and musicians play every Saturday night in July and August on the White Rock strip for “Concerts at the Park”. The Sunday Morning Farmers Market also runs between the months of May to October, where you can find a variety of local goods and an opportunity to support local farmers and artisans.

In the off season and all months of the year, locals can enjoy a variety of amenities off the strip, such as Centennial Arena for ice skating, figure skating and hockey. The White Rock Community Centre has many art oriented activities for family fun and personal needs.

White Rock is located within close range of major highways to and from Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. If you’re looking to live in a unique community with a rich sense of culture, White Rock may have your next home.
